My 92-year-old mom has lovingly cared for this starter for as long as I can remember.
Its like one of her children, predating both my sister and me. She bought the starter in 1951 from a famous San Francisco bakery while traveling with my dad, a retired U.S. Navy RDML.
The bakery owner shared that the starter had been in use since 1850, and that its original owner had kept it in his family for 40 years before opening the bakery. Her dedication and love for sourdough have passed down to us, and were excited to share it with you!
