Hand woven bamboo is used, which is covered in clay and painted in a rich red color with ancient Northern Thai lettering on all sides, as well as on the lid. Woven bamboo and cotton rope adorn the exterior in a style that is traditional to Thai rice jars of old. The jar sits on a base of native raintree wood.

The name Lanna comes from an ancient region in Northern Thailand that was known as the "Kingdom of a Million Rice Fields".
