The 1X lens is used primarily as protection for your microscope's objective lenses from smoke and abrasive materials while performing tasks such as soldering. The 1.5X and 2X lenses increase the overall magnification by their respective amounts, as well as decrease field-of-view and working distance.
They all use a 48mm (1-7/8") mounting thread.
